CHARLES COBURN

MEET THE ARTIST
CINCINNATI-BASED CONTEMPORARY ARTIST
Charles Coburn, known professionally as “Fealart,” is a dynamic 31-year-old self-taught artist from Cincinnati, Ohio. With over a decade of painting experience, Charles has cultivated a profound connection with surrealism and abstract art, drawing inspiration from the legendary Salvador Dali, Pablo Picasso, and Gerhard Richter. His journey as an artist began by emulating the works of these greats, infusing his unique perspective, and engaging in what he describes as "destroying history".
Fealart's breakout moment came in 2022 when he made a striking debut at Miami Art Week (Art Basel), one of the most prestigious and well-attended international art fairs in the United States. Over the past ten years, Charles has experienced tremendous growth and evolution, continuously refining his craft and developing a distinctive style that is instantly recognizable.
Fealart's work is a vibrant rebellion against the mundane and traditional. Charles strives to "bring light and color to the stale and traditional subject matter we're used to seeing". He believes the art world is oversaturated with hyper-realistic portraits that, while impressive, leave little to the imagination. In contrast, Charles aims to challenge his audience, blending realism with abstraction to create what he terms "abstract surrealism". His paintings offer just enough realism to provide context, inviting viewers to engage their minds and complete the narrative.
On a deeper level, Charles' art delves into the complex emotions and experiences that define the human condition. His pieces explore themes of coping, survival, and the often-tumultuous journey of life. "No one should ever feel alone in this life we live, and if someone can relate to my art and feel understood, I think my art has done its job", says Charles. Through his work, he hopes to foster connection and empathy, offering solace and understanding to those who view his creations.
